(a) Since AB is parallel to DC, slope of AB = slope of DC [ 5-(-2) ] / [ (-1)-(-5) ] = [ 6-(-1) ] / [ 7-k ] 7/4 = 7/(7-k) k = 3 (b) Slope of AD = [ 6-5 ] / [ 7-(-1) ] = 1/8 Slope of BC = [ (-1)-(-2) ] / [ 3-(-5) ] = 1/8 = Slope of AD So AD is parallel to BC.
