(a) In one day, the enrgy consumed by the air-conditioner = (745.7 x 0.85 + 40 x 0.15 ) x 12 x 3600 J = 2.764 x 10^7 J = 2.764 x 10^4 kJ In 61 days, energy consumed = 2.764 x 10^4 x 61 kJ = 1.686 x 10^6 kJ Since 1 kw-h = 3600 kJ hence, Energy consumed in 61 days = 1.686 x 10^6/3600 kw-h = 468.3 kw-h (b) Amount of expenses = $468.3 x 1.322 = $619
