Monochromatic light strikes a diffraction grating at normal incidence before illuminating a screen 2.02 m away. If the first-order maxima are separated by 1.43 m on the screen, what is the distance between the two second-order maxima?

最佳解答:

With s sin θ = nλ When n = 1, tan θ = (1.43/2)/2.02 = 0.354, giving sin θ = 0.334 s = λ/0.334 When n = 2, s sin θ = 2λ sin θ = 2λ/s = 2λ/(λ/0.334) = 0.667 So θ = 0.731 rad for n = 2, making a separation between maxima = 2 x 2.02tan θ = 3.62 m
